“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” - Matt. 5:4

“Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.”— Lk. 6:21
Who is blessed? Those who mourn and weep. Why? Mourning and weeping are fruits of biblical repentance. A lifestyle void of repentance is a dead man walking. Jesus Christ said, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Who is blessed? Those who repent with sincere mourning and weeping over sin. This is called godly sorrow, which works repentance to salvation.
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
— 2 Cor. 7:10
Worldly sorrow is depression. Depression is an ungodly sorrow that is produced by sin. Godly sorrow is produced by God. Literally, God is at work in godly sorrow. This is how God draws sinners to salvation. There can be no godly sorrow without God.
“No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
— John 6:44
No one can come to Jesus Christ without the drawing power of godly sorrow. Salvation is of the Lord! Sinners cannot and will not seek after God without this drawing power. “There is none that seeketh after God.” Sinners cannot change their own hearts because the human heart is totally depraved.
“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool”
— Prov. 28:26
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
— Jer. 17:9
Repentance is a miracle of God in the human heart It is something comparable to open-heart surgery The Holy Ghost must be at work in the granting of repentance to sinners And God is the judge of everyone’s repentance! Therefore, we need to depend upon the counsel of God. The Bible describes exactly what “fruits” to look for when identifying a genuine work of repentance from sin
“Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance…”
— Luke 3:8
“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
— Matt. 7:20
God saw Hezekiah’s repentance, and said to him, “I have seen thy tears” God saw Josiah’s repentance, and said to him, “Because thine heart was tender…and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before Me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.” These men were praying, weeping, and crying out to the Lord in sincerity with all their hearts. What does God see when looking at you?
“…turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments”
— Joel 2:12-13
“Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”
— James 4:9-10
Some sinners will not repent without sore judgments breaking their bones and humbling their pride. Divine judgment can correct the crash course of sinners. “For when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness” God proved this by example in many generations. The proud and impenitent Jews were sorely judged by God through the Babylonian Captivity. Eventually, in the end, they returned from exile “weeping” and repenting as they were determined to “seek the LORD their God” God saw them repenting! God heard them repenting Does God see and hear you?
“I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn Thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.”
— Jer. 31:18
Once again, repentance is a gift from God God must turn the sinner; otherwise, the sinner will not be turned. God must soften the heart; otherwise, the heart will remain cold, hard, and spiritually dead. The time has come for a great congregation of Africans to assemble in pursuit of repentance. The time has come to weep and cry out to God for a true work of repentance to be performed in the hearts of men.
“Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the House of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.”
— Ezra 10:1
We need more hellfire preaching on repentance! It is time for Africa to come before the feet of Jesus Christ “weeping” in biblical repentanceMourning and weeping without biblical repentance is met with the silence of God. As David said, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:” Thousands of Africans are mourning and weeping to God without knowing their need for repentance. They seek God for the betterment of their earthly lives rather than salvation from sin. Honestly, they aren’t even seeking God for salvation, and therefore they don’t come before Him in repentance.
Similarly, in the 1st century, thousands of Jews physically followed Jesus for food after they saw Him perform a miracle to feed the 5,000. This warranted a rebuke from the Lord, when He said, “Ye seek Me…because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.” Hungry sinners thought they could satisfy their bellies through Christianity. Poor people wanted prosperity. God spoke against such ones through the prophet Hosea.
“And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.”
— Hos. 7:14
Cursed and insincere people will lift up their hands to God in fervent prayer, but God sees that they are void of repentance. Therefore, He says, “And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you:” They will fast, but God says, “When they fast, I will not hear their cry” They will cry loudly and shout in prayer, but God says, “though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.” These same people are those who are “covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out” Nevertheless, they are rejected by God because their mourning and weeping is in a worldly sorrow that is void of repentance.
“Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.”
— Heb. 12:16-17
What is God saying to you? Cursed and insincere followers were the majority in the 1st century. Countless miracles were happening as an act of good will from God, but when sinners got the miracle that they wanted, and once their lives were physically improved, most of them left without ever coming into subjection to the Lordship of Jesus Christ unto salvation.
The statistics of biblical repentance and true conversion weren’t good during the 3½ year ministry of Jesus Christ. Nine out of ten lepers cried out to Jesus for physical healing with no regard for salvation from sin
“And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”
— Lk. 17:15-18
The lepers probably thought that they were going to truly convert to Christ. They thought they were being sincere. They said that they would repent of their sins! But when their physical problems were solved, they found themselves running back to the world. You could say that they almost became real Christians. They almost entered into the narrow gate of the Kingdom.
“Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
— Lk. 13:24
Millions of people in modern times become Christians in name only because they want miracles for the betterment of their earthly lives. They are not seeking Jesus Christ for the greatest miracle of all, which is salvation from sin. Similarly, you may have faith for healing, which is a lesser miracle, but do you have faith for salvation from sin by the mighty power of the Gospel? Your eternity depends upon it. It is time for Africa to accept the terms of the Cross and realize the power of the Gospel. Nothing will reduce sinners to tears of biblical repentance like the Cross of Jesus Christ.
“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned. And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.”
— Luke 23:46-49
Everything changed for many selfish and insincere sinners in the 1st century, only because they were gathered before the Cross of Jesus Christ to behold the miracle of salvation. Proud sinners were then reduced to tears of repentance as they gazed upon the great sight! Cursed and impenitent sinners were then blessed! Blessed are those that mourn and weep in the godly sorrow of repentance unto salvation. They shall be comforted.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is called “the Comforter” Receiving this gift is the effect of salvation. The work of redemption that was performed in the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ is personally experienced by sinners as they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost The Comforter brings comfort as the Performer of salvation. The Comforter brings comfort in the establishment of righteousness within the soul Jesus Christ also called the Holy Ghost, “the promise of My Father” He ascended so that this promise might be “shed” upon sinners who repent and believe in the Gospel
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a Tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
— Gal. 3:13-14
God blesses sinners with salvation because He cursed Jesus Christ on the Cross. The sin of the world was imputed into Jesus Christ, making it possible for the Son of God to suffer and die under the wrath of God until it was finished This is the transaction of the Gospel. Those who repent and believe in the Gospel receive the imputation of Jesus Christ’s righteousness, making it possible for sinners to be blameless, holy, and blessed.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”
— Eph. 1:3-4
Saved souls are blessed! Infinitely blessed. God has “blessedus withall spiritual blessings” Therefore, we cannot be any more “blessed” than we already are right now. Why? Because truly saved people are “in Christ” Jesus Christ is infinitely blessed. All the blessings of God are in Christ. Therefore, by virtue of being “in Christ” legally and spiritually, Christians have access to all the blessings of God. Africans who behold these things will rejoice in Christ as they find in Him all they want, and all they will ever need. “Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them”
Most people think that if you have confessed your sins to God, then you have certainly repented of your sins. However, according to the Bible, confession is not the same thing as repentance.
Most people think that if you are sorry for your sins and you confess them to God, then you have certainly repented of your sins. However, according to the Bible, confession is not the same thing as repentance.
When we ask,"Is Christ your Lord?" we mean, does He in very deed occupy the throne of your heart, does He actually rule over your life? Until Christ becomes your King, until you bow to his scepter, SELF dominates.
Without question, Jesus Christ is the Lord! The only question is if Jesus Christ is your Lord. Or are you the lord over your own life? That’s the point of the question in Luke 6:46.
Everyone is in the Blessings and Woes of Jesus Christ. The fate of all is determined by these pronouncements. Are you blessed? Are you cursed? You need to know that all the blessings are related. In parallel, all the woes are related.
Do you seek the blessings of Jesus Christ? This may come as a shock to you. Most people in Africa are seeking the woes of Jesus Christ without knowing it. Blind and deaf false prophets are leading the people astray.
The primary blessing that Jesus Christ is offering is salvation from sin. Jesus Christ is drawing a line in the sand to help us discern who is saved and who is unsaved.
